Be Children of the Hereafter, Not the World

Hawzah News Agency- Muhammad ibn Ahmad al‑Asadi narrated that Muhammad ibn Abi Imran narrated from Abu Mus'ab Ahmad ibn Abi Bakr al‑Zuhri, from Ali ibn Abi Ali al‑Lahabi, from Muhammad ibn al‑Munkadir, from Jabir ibn Abd Allah that The Messenger of Allah (pbuh and his family) said:

إِنَّ أَخْوَفَ مَا أَخَافُ عَلَی أُمَّتِیَ الْهَوَی وَ طُولُ الْأَمَلِ أَمَّا الْهَوَی فَإِنَّهُ یَصُدُّ عَنِ الْحَقِّ وَ أَمَّا طُولُ الْأَمَلِ فَیُنْسِی الْآخِرَهَ وَ هَذِهِ الدُّنْیَا قَدِ ارْتَحَلَتْ مُدْبِرَهً وَ هَذِهِ الْآخِرَهُ قَدِ ارْتَحَلَتْ مُقْبِلَهً وَ لِکُلِّ وَاحِدَهٍ مِنْهُمَا بَنُونَ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَنْ تَکُونُوا مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ الْآخِرَهِ وَ لَا تَکُونُوا مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ الدُّنْیَا فَافْعَلُوا فَإِنَّکُمْ الْیَوْمَ فِی دَارِ عَمَلٍ وَ لَا حِسَابَ وَ أَنْتُمْ غَداً فِی دَارِ حِسَابٍ وَ لَا عَمَلَ.

Indeed, the thing I fear most for my community (Ummah) is following desires and having prolonged hopes.

As for desires, they divert one away from the truth;

and as for prolonged hope, it makes one forget the Hereafter.

This world is departing, turning its back,

and the Hereafter is approaching, coming forward.

Each of them has its own children.

So if you are able to be among the children of the Hereafter and not among the children of this world, then do so.

For today you are in a realm of action with no reckoning,

and tomorrow you will be in a realm of reckoning with no action.”
